Fantaxospiliara Cave

Fantaxospiliara is a fossil cave system in Rethymno — once an active underground river, now inactive after significant tectonic shifts. Fossils are visible at the entrance. Its bat colonies have declined sharply in recent years.

Visited on 30.11.2008 as part of an HSS Crete Section field seminar, where trainees practised cave surveying and photography.
